Elina Jutelyte once sent a value-based proposal to a client. He asked how many hours were in it, hired the people she had named, and never signed. A business coach told her why: she was selling herself as a consultant, but nothing around her said consultant. That gap between how you position yourself and how clients see you is what this talk is about.

What the talk covers

  • Why positioning advice fails freelancers: most frameworks were written for companies, and "find a niche, pick an ideal client, write a better tagline" is copywriting, not positioning.
  • The 8Ps of a freelance business: Product, People, Place, Promotion, Physical Evidence, Process, Performance and Price. Positioning is the system they form together, not a statement. Pull one out and the flywheel stops.
  • What the well-known solopreneurs do that most don't: sell a transformation, build their network on purpose, show up in the right rooms, collect trust signals from people at their level, build their own IP, and only then charge a premium.
  • Why 76 percent of freelancers doubt their prices, and why that is a positioning problem, not a pricing one.

Quick fixes you can start this week

  • Audit your past projects: service, industry, client, fee, how they found you, what you liked. Find the pattern, build an offer around it and validate it with 25 people like that client.
  • Write one case study yourself, and keep a running file of testimonials.
  • Put a feedback check into every project from day one.
  • Build your market intelligence from client conversations, not downloaded benchmarks, and keep a value impact bank of the problems you solve.
