"Imagine it's December 2025, your most successful year yet." Hanna Oeljeschläger opened her workshop on 14 May 2025 with that exercise, because she says the first thing successful founders do differently is not a product idea. They can picture the result and believe it is possible for them. She talked about mindset, not strategy or finance, which she treats as given. The recording ends before the last point is finished.

The seven patterns

  1. Believe it is possible. Nobody follows you if you don't. Build that belief with the right people around you, people who are two steps ahead, and by investing in your skills.
  2. Start with a why. Making money alone won't carry you far. Your why, the product or service you believe in, is your internal GPS when others criticise you.
  3. Choose your network carefully. Start small: a mentor, a coach or a group that is a step or two ahead and shares your values. It saves time, money and stress.
  4. Stay open to opportunities. Opportunity "whispers". The how rarely looks as expected, so stay curious, talk to people and listen to feedback, especially on a first version of your product. Keep the why, change the how.
  5. Be willing to take risks. They are not reckless, she says, but required, and especially in a cautious market like Germany. A co-founder with complementary strengths helps. Take calculated risks, not leaps such as expanding abroad too fast.
  6. Be okay with failure. Most successful founders have faced major ones. Ask what the lesson is and change the audience, product or service before giving up.
  7. Take action. After the books and master classes, launch a first version and adjust on the way. That puts you ahead of most, by her estimate.
